Discussion
The superior version between Saturn and PlayStation, X-Men: Children of the Atom was a fighting game that had no rivals in its class. 10 playable characters, 2 bosses and one hidden guest character are dumped into a Street Fighter-class engine with mutant abilities in check. You can super jump, use full screen Super Moves, and have angled projectiles based on the character you use.

Besides the obvious special moves, XM:COTA's biggest wow factor lay buried in the amazing amount of on-screen bursts and character sizes. Juggernaut is damn near half the screen, and has a move that will cover the entire playfield in about 2 seconds.

The US Saturn died a very quick death, but if you're a Capcom fan looking for some great old-school fighting games, the Saturn was the place to be. Take this over the PSX version any chance you get.

Trivia
  • Gamepro Magazine gave the game a perfect score across all categories.

  • Both boss characters Magneto and Juggernaut can be played via a code.

  • The backgrounds are 'interactive' to a degree. Grounds will crack and crumble from collateral damage, glass will crack in the background, and other stages move.

  • Akuma / Gouki of Street Fighter fame is playable via specific button presses on the character select screen.

  • There is a nifty "System" code you can enter to allow set-up for options not normally available to you.

  • Contains Modes not available on the PlayStation version.

  • Several characters have moved forward into other games, including Marvel Super Heroes and several of the Marvel Vs Capcom series.
