Discussion
While I dismissed Daytona USA and simply patted Virtua Cop on the back, it is Virtua Fighter 2 that is still one of the classics that refuses to go down…er...fighting.

It’s true that the Sega Saturn was a pain in the ass to program for, and to its discredit Virtua Fighter 2 is not even close to arcade perfect graphic wise. However, with the added resolution and extra play modes, the 1,200 plus moves still look fresh out of the box; all 10 characters move and control beautifully.

What’s sad in going backwards with this website, is that you realize just how little future iterations of the series have changed. The same combos I used for Sarah in VF4 on PlayStation 2 work here, which while a testament to the game play, makes you wonder why more hasn’t been done with the game.

Most folks will pass this all over to play the PS3 or 360 version with its amazing graphics and 360’s online game play. Sometimes though, you just need to hold a Saturn controller in your hands.

Trivia
  • Variant, see below.

  • Game Fan, back in the hey day, once had an article concerning how high Virtua Fighter 2's resolution displayed. They complained that it could be screen-captured through normal means. I have to somewhat agree with them. The game looks terrible in these screen caps; it's so much prettier in person. Even with the simple textures and models, the resolution makes the game look amazing, especially in S-Video.

  • Virtua Fighter 2 and Sega Rally were packaged in Silver Variant covers so they stood out on the store shelf.

Variants / Misprints:
Virtua Fighter 2 never had a regular 'white' label release. Only the retail silver packaging and the 3 Free Games pack version.
