Description Review
The official launch issue of Sony's subscription based CD Magazine, the PlayStation Underground was started in early 1997. Each quarter (4 times a year) the magazine would arrive on gamers doors with 2 CDs chock full of reviews, behind the scenes, previews, and even playable demos.

Also worth mentioning is the Imports section. Several issues dipped into the poorly supported Yaroze era, and several Japanese games that would have never made it over are featured every so often. The launch issue contains:

  • Vault
    • Twisted Metal 2
    • Jet Moto
    • Cool Boarders
    • NFL Gameday 97
  • Imports
    • Dynasty Warriors
  • Tech Q + A
    • Send in Your Questions
  • Debriefing
    • Interview with Dave Jaffe of Sony
  • Behind the Scenes
    • Making of the Twisted Metal 2 Commercial
    • NFL Gameday 97
  • Download Station
    • Carnage Heart - Design Team OKEs
  • Event Center
    • E3 - Time Lapse of the Event
  • Bulletins
  • Next Transmission
  • Code Book
Trivia
  • Interesting little diddy about the launch issue; Normally when there are 2 CDs in a set, they have different corresponding SCUS numbers. Sony apparently originally considered both CDs "1 Issue" and numbered them the same. This was eventually corrected to avoid confusion.

  • The Director Clipboard shown during the Behind the Scenes section flashes 4 sets of numbers, with one set having a red digit. That red digit number is EN05, which is a tribute to the original URNOTE ("You Are Not Ready"). EN05 backwards is "Sony [is] Ready".

  • Disc 2 Contains the following:
    • Carnage Heart
    • Tomb Raider
    • Mechwarrior 2
    • Spider
    • Rage Racer
    • Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee
    • Jurassic Park
