Discussion So here's the deal - up until now, any time you heard the phrase 'silver bottom' in reference to a PlayStation One game, you knew it was a pirated disc, or at the very least a misprint. No more. Thanks to some wonderful sleuth work by Game-Rave readers (I love all of you) and credit card abuse by yours truly, we can now confirm five honest-to-god, 100% authentic ‘Silver Bottom’ variants in the Sony stable. Thankfully, it seems that all of them are readily available all in the same spot. Each game is a re-re-release of a Square Enix print run, and all of them are available for purchase from their online store here. Interestingly, these are not alone – it seems the Silver Bottom extends to PlayStation 2 games that were once the true blue and then reprinted into silver. You can see the current list (as of June 15, 2011) via a post by BCKS at digitpress.com clicking this link. According to BCKS, there is the possibility of Metal Gear Solid 1 in the MGS Triple Pack PS2 set being a Silver Bottom, though nothing yet is confirmed. If you have spotted a Silver Bottom PSone game that is not listed here, please contact me and we can research it together! |
What to look for? Sadly, only one of the games has a tell tale sign in the actual packaging to prove its a Silver Bottom. However, if you can memorize shades of grey and black, the double jewel case versions reveal themselves quite vividly. For those of you trying to find local sealed copies, I have provided a cheat sheet image of the color variation below:
That said, here's the rogue's gallery of games. You may click their Name to be brought to their official Game-Rave page.
