Description / Review

Activision is probably one of the few companies that can actually pull a license off.

Based partially on Activision’s own designs and melded together with the 2000 X-Men movie, Mutant Academy is a pretty nice fighting game that rewards the player once they have the combat system down. You play as 6 heroes and 4 villains, each having their trademark special and super moves. Besides the Paradox costume designs, you can even choose the Hollywood style costumes and unlock hundreds of secret items, like comic book covers, characters, and more.

Enclosures

The original printing came with a movie ticket voucher. For this version to be complete, you must have the following in your possession.

Trivia
  •  There is a slight cover variation, see below.

  • Activision is very organized when it comes to their products. Each part of every game they release has its own Product ID (in this case, the manual is 221, the back insert is 201, and the CD is 101). The second manual, which mentions the costumes, is 222. Oddly enough, the Greatest Hits release, though having 222's cover image, uses 221's serial number. Go figure.

  • In the very back of the manual, past the credits, you can find a miniature graduation certificate for passing the Mutant Academy's courses. It's labeled as "Your Name Here".

  • Voice Actor Ray Landry has also voiced characters in the animated Flash Gordon, and played Humphrey Bogart in a movie.

  •  Voice Actor Lawrence Bayne had lent his vocals to several of the Street Fighter III games, as well as the Donkey Kong Animated series.

  • Voice Actress Catherine Disher is a X-men voice regular. While she regularly does Psylocke, she has also contributed to Storm, and almost every Capcom fighting game involving the X-Men.

  • Voice Actress Alison Sealy-Smith has also contributed to Myst IV and was in the movie Honey.

Greatest Hits
Released as a Greatest Hits version.

Interesting to note: The PSRM number ups itself to 92, rather than 90, on the GH version.

Variations / Misprints
The original release of XM:MA included a free movie ticket voucher. The manual cover reflected this as well. Once that shipment was done with, they changed it to show that the movie costumes were in the game.
