Discussion
A FMV (Full Motion Video) game based on the original trilogy. Decent acting, a usual plot, and some fun references are sullied by an amazingly difficult game experience. While the 'on foot' and dog fight scenes are fine, the 'dodge the oncoming structure' stages are brutal. There is some bizarre physics going on that plays with your ship's trajectory, causing all kinds of control issues.

One for the fans, most everyone else can skip it.

Trivia
  • Greatest Hits variant, see below.

  • The game mixes fresh, original movie clips along side several from the original films.

  • Console wise, the original Rebel Assault was available on the 3DO and the Sega CD. A character from the first makes a surprise cameo appearance in this version.

  • There are several stages that have 'forced damage', meaning you will take damage no matter what. These stages usually require an almost perfect run taking out the enemy units, as their added damage will drive you into a quick death.

  • A surprise honorary guest in the "Light Gun" category. If you have the Konami Justifier (or any similar light gun), you can use it in the 3rd person, 'on foot' sequences. It's not quite the real thing, but more or less an invisible mouse cursor. This is essentially the nod to the cover's "Custom PlayStation Edition" decal.

Variants / Misprints
There is a standard release Greatest Hits variant for the game.
