Description / Review

Crystal Dynamics isn't exactly the first name to come to mind when you think 'PlayStation Sports Game', but here they are with a pretty solid basketball game.

Imagine if they made Double Dribble into a PlayStation game, and you get the basic idea of Slam n' Jam. Sprite based graphics help capture the feel of a fast-paced, dunk style gameplay. There are no player or team likenesses in the game. Magic and Kareem's last names are not even mentioned. So as long as you don't mind playing with Joe Nobodies, you're in for a pretty fun romp.

Trivia
  • There is a jewel case variant. See below.

  • Both games are "Signature Edition," though opened Long Box versions may show otherwise. This was because originally the "Signature Edition" logo was a sticker on the outside of the packaging; Crystal Dynamics made it part of the manual artwork in the second release.

  • The jewel case version contains an "E" ESRB rating where the original print run has a "Kids to Adult" on it. This how you can make sure you are getting the right disc with the right case.

  • Shares a strange similarity to the Konami arcade basketball game Run & Gun.

  • You can also make sure the disc is correct by checking out the date. The long box has the '96 as part of the title, where the re-release drops the date since it would have been 2 years out-dated to the then current releases.

  • Also available on the 3DO and Saturn.

  • Contains no player or team likenesses, sans Magic and Kareem.

  • Van Earl Wright provides the commentary.

Greatest Hits
This game was never released as a Greatest Hits.
Variations / Misprints
Crystal Dynamics re-released the game in 1998 as a jewel case version.

Besides the above mentioned trivia facts, the CD itself received a face lift, and the Copyright info was changed.
