Description
The Greatest Collection of Fighters Just Entered the Arena

We've hit you with a Super Combo! 3 Monumental releases featuring 27 fighters from the series that defined fighting games. Battle your way through your all time favorites: Super Street Fighter II, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, and the U.S. debut of Street Fighter Alpha 2: Gold, brought home in their true arcade form for the first time.

Review
Next to Street Fighter 2 Turbo: Hyper Fighting, SSF2T is my favorite original Street Fighter canon game. You had the original introduction of Super Moves, some of the nicest re-worked animation frames of the time, and damn it; who didn't spend hours fighting as Akuma?!

The translation is pretty spot on, and the control is tight. The Alpha 2 disc allows you to play as Cammy in that series, as well as choose alternate styles of the characters, including and Evil Zangief and Psycho M. Bison.

Overall it's a fun little package, and one I keep going back to every so often.

Trivia
  • Fighters Edge Variant. See below.

  • The Street Fighter series, when re-released in compilation form, was released backwards in the US. This set came first, even though they were the later games. The first 3 games would come 2nd, in Street Fighter Collection 2.

  • Games included in this compilation are:
    • Super Street Fighter II
    • Super Street Fighter II Turbo
    • Street Fighter Alpha 2: Gold

  • Cammy was a hidden character in the Gold version of Alpha 2.

  • For a strange reason, the high pitched announcer also did the voice for Guile. It was...a very dark period for our American character.

  • Rolento's Alpha 2 stage is a tribute to his original Final Fight area.

Variations / Misprints
Capcom had this wacky deal with GamePro and called it the Fighters Edge. All games released or re-released through it has points you could use towards snowboards, hats, t-shirts, etc. The plan fell through after several releases, though. I'd assume it's because all the items were covered in Fighters Edge decals, and not sweet, sweet Capcom art.

The FE version of SFC has some minor typography changes to help relate to the white borders, and the CDs now have the Capcom hint line on them.

PlayStation 2 Compatibility - Fast Load
All times are rounded up to the nearest second. Tests are performed on a PlayStation 2 Slim Line with 1.11 PS Drivers.

Standard

Start to Select Screen - 3 Sec

Character to Round 1 - 10 Sec

Next Character - 12 Sec

Fast

Start to Select Screen - 3 Sec

Character to Round 1 - 7 Sec

Next Character - 8 Sec

Game loaded fine with both options turned on.

PlayStation 2 Compatibility - Smooth
With the smooth option on, the game suffers a similar fate as most 2D PlayStation games suffer; the separation of sprites. While the characters themselves seem to escape the curse, stationary objects like life meters, selection screen portraits, and stages heavy on scrolling (like Guile's) all have prominent lines showing. See life meter below for example.
