POWER RANGERS RESCUE READY!
The Power Rangers are saving the world on the PlayStation!

Discussion
Spandex fans unite! One of three Power Rangers games released on the PlayStation, LightSpeed Rescue takes the train riding super heroes across a 6-stage action game. 1 or 2 players fight their way through hordes of enemies as they rescue hostages and tackle crazy enemies.

Basic game play is just that: basic. You have punch, kick, jump, and a special move against wave after wave of enemies. There’s really one only enemy – all that changes is the color of their belt. This lack of variation in the enemy selection is made up by the level design. Each level is unique, provides interesting if sometimes annoying secrets and areas to explore.

The music is more or less standard fare. Control is relatively fine, but sometimes it doesn’t feel like you’re actually hitting the target. No real slowdown to be had anywhere, and the graphics are surprisingly well done.

Not the usual throw-away licensed shovelware, but nothing extraordinary either.

Trivia
  • To give you an idea of just how goofy the marketing is / was with Power Rangers items, on the back of the package, they show the actual toy Megazord, not the in-show one.

  • There is a hidden stage in the game. Normally only 6 stages (even if you use the Stage Select Code), you can unlock a 7th by finding all three Time Wheel Pieces. You will then have a multi-boss fight finish in the bad guy's castle.

  • In the same hidden stage, you can find the hidden Silver Ranger underneath the castle by following a path located off to the right if the main path near the castle. Otherwise he is available by passcode.

  • There are various FMV sequences taken from the show placed in-between levels. With the exception of the robot sequences, many don't really make any sense in the context of the upcoming level.

  • Oddly enough, this game isn't entirely for the easy going. Many of the power-up gems and some random items require airborne 90 degree turns. Many objectives are just off-screen and can be easily missed.
