Description / Review

Once again the King of Fighters Tournament is opened up, but this time there are mysterious things going on. There is no fan fare or hype, no commercials or large spectator crowds. Invitations are calling for small venues, and even more strange, new rules are set in place, including a new teammate called the 'Striker'.

This character's only duty on the team is to jump out at the push of a button and assist their partner. With this new rule, old teams are remixed with all new characters and some or even brought back with old opponents.

What everyone wonders however, is why there are suddenly 3 Kyos running around...

32 total characters come to the frontlines for the last King of Fighters game to be released on the original PlayStation.

Trivia
  • Thanks to the screwball antics of Sony USA, what could have been a beautiful yearly update became an abandoned dream. After Sony released KoF '95 and Samurai Shodown III, they all but abandoned SNK's release schedule. While we were left to fend for ourselves in the arcades, SNK of Japan released each King of Fighters from '95 to '99, and even a text based adventure RPG called: Kyo: King of Fighters.

  • This was the first game in the series to feature the 'Striker' option.

  • The storyline now follows a character called " K' " (K-Dash).

  • Ignores the oddball renaming issues found in the Dreamcast versions.

  • Also available on the Neo Geo systems and Dreamcast.

  • The final boss, Krizalid, is playable after beating the game and inputting a code.

  • Also released in the Tommo 3 Games for 1 Pack Volume 06 alongside Chess and Puzzle: Star Sweep.
