Description
Surviving Mobile Suit Battle: The Moment of Truth!

Review
An amazing, almost impossible feat on the PlayStation strapped onto one of the most beloved anime franchises in history.

Pick from an assortment of Gundam robots and then clobber each other in 1-on-1 Street Fighter-like game play. The characters have trademark moves and weapons, with some cute dialogue tossed in between the two pilots.

More importantly, the characters feature actual attributes and physical damage. Your gun will run out of ammo, and you can lose practically all of your shielding and body armor.

The pace is a little slow, but once adjusted, the game has some amazing depth in the combo system.

Trivia
  • Released in Japan as Gundam: Battle Master

  • Features Mobile Suits from various Gundam series, though in single player mode you are always Heero, regardless of your mech.

  • One of only 2 Gundam games released for the US market; Japan got like 13 of them. But then, is that really a surprise?

  • The game uses a brilliant programming trick to allow the detail and multiple layers of damage to the mechs. Rather than giant sprites, each robot is constructed of hundreds of mini-sprites, all synchronized in movement to allow the fluid animation and amazing battle damage. It's also why the game loads so quickly; smaller files take less time to toss up on screen.

  • Features one of the most amazing on-screen characters of any fighting game. One of the mechs stands a full screen-and-a-half tall, and is partially blocked by the health and ammo bars.
