Description / Review

One of the few next-generation FMV games I could openly tolerate back in the day, Acclaim's US release of Warp's D proved to be one of their few great moves.

D focuses around Laura, the daughter of a quiet doctor who suddenly goes on an unexplained and unprovoked killing spree at the hospital where he works. Once you arrive, you are sucked into a portal and teleported to a bizarre mansion. It is here inside the haunted halls of a mad man's psyche that you must discover the mystery of 'D".

Game play is focused not so much on you controlling Laura, but rather moving her along a set choice of paths that will direct her to specific points in the house. By using clues and placing items where they go, you will make your way to the top of the mansion's devilish mansion and come face to face with her father.

What makes D so interesting is you literally only have 2 hours to beat the game, with no save functions allowed. Your only help is Laura's compact, which will allow for three visual clues as to your next move. Other than that, it's just you, the mansion, and 2 hours of sheer mental terror.

Trivia
  •  Released in Jewel case variant. See Below.

  • The shortest US PlayStation title name ever.

  • D's main character Laura became the first ever sort of 'digital game actress', since Warp used in her more than just the D series, even if the games weren't related to it.

  • Also available on the Saturn, which oddly enough is only 2 CDs long.

  • Laura is completely silent through out the entire game, minus some possible breathing segments.

  • Features two different endings depending on a single choice at the end of the game.

  • (Spoiler: Highlight with Cursor to Read) Laura shows off her blond roots. Her  father always appears above her when he make his ghostly appearances, yet she never catches on. She always looks around the room first.

Greatest Hits
Never released as a Greatest Hits.
Variations / Misprints
D was released in the clear case long box, as well as the double jewel case release.

The jewel case version only has the typical layout differences to accommodate the new size ratio.
