Description / Review
This was the Planet Web / LightSpan collaboration to bring the PlayStation 1 online in the same way PlanetWeb brought the Dreamcast to the internet. The CD acts as the system’s navigation menu and set-up for onscreen keyboard commands. An official release, with only the Beta Trial Verison 0.1 known, more research is needed on the CD.

The disc is useless without 2 very important things:

  • Lightspan Modem:

    • Would have hooked up to the back of the deck via the Parallell port.

  • Lightspan formatted Memory Card.

    • The memory card acts in the same way the Sony Yaroze Boot Card works; it’s a Rom Check to verify PlanetWeb’s authenticity, and then would store web-site favorites to its battery, as well as modem numbers, etc.

Trivia
  • Despite being a 'beta', the game is a 100% official Sony release with PSRM and SLUS number.

  • Lightspan had their own SLUS designation, listed as LSP (LightSPan)

  • Although you can use the standard Sony controller for navigation, a special adapter was developed that allowed that allowed you to plug in a standard keyboard and mouse into the controller port.

  • Though not really a game, the Online CD takes the award for smallest sized PlayStation disc, weighing in at only 4.11 Megs.

  • Several schools that used the online connection CD were contacted, but none have returned our inquiries.
