This is a complete breakdown of Sony's PSRM numbering system, which is one of two ways Sony catalogued the PSone releases. After reading through this guide, you'll be able to tell a lot about a game form just a 6 digit number. :) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The PSRM Number Itself P S R M =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= (If you have a multi-disc PSone game nearby, it'll act as a handy guide) If you grab a PlayStation game, read the fine print that scrolls along the outer rim of the disc. Once you reach the end, you will see a number that reads: PSRM - 000000. This is the (P)lay(S)tation (R)egistration (Ma)rker. When Sony and its 3rd party companies (like EA Sports, Konami, Capcom, etc) have a game to publish, Sony will assign each game this PSRM number. Within the 6 Digits are several important facts about the game in question: 1. The Release Date, to within 4 months accuracy. 2. Whether or not there are Companion CDs for it. 3. Whether or not there are Additional Game CDs for it. 4. Whether or not there are Variations of the Disc out there. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The PSRM Number Breakdown of the 6 Digits B R E A K =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= PSRM - 0 0 0 0 0 0 ------- - - - __________________________________ | | | |______________ | Variant Digit | | | | | If this number is anything other | | | | | than 0 (zero), then the disc is | | | | | different than the original disc.| | | |________________ | This may be due to artwork, box | ________|___ | |Multi Digit | | set unit, or re-coding. | |Year Digit | | |This is where | =================================== |Shows which | | |extra discs are | |Year Game | | |tracked | |Came out. | | ================= ============== ---------------------------------------------------------- |Variable Disc Digit | |Games that had non-sequential disc order, like the | |"Command and Conquer" games were tallied here. Sony divided the year | 002 - 1996 - Trimester 2 | into 3 Trimesters, four months to a Trimester | 003 - 1996 - Trimester 3 | section. Broken down, they are divided as: | | | 004 - 1997 - Trimester 1 | Trimester 1 = Jan./ Feb. / Mar. / Apr. | 005 - 1997 - Trimester 2 | Trimester 2 = May / June / July / Aug. | 006 - 1997 - Trimester 3 | Trimester 3 = Sep./ Oct. / Nov. / Dec. | | | 007 - 1998 - Trimester 1 | Sony most likely chose a Trimester set-up | 008 - 1998 - Trimester 2 | because it would allow companies to have a | 009 - 1998 - Trimester 3 | 3 month window to delay their game and still | | keep the same Registration number. | 010 - 1999 - Trimester 1 | | 011 - 1999 - Trimester 2 ================================================= 012 - 1999 - Trimester 3 013 - 2000 - Trimester 1 014 - 2000 - Trimester 2 015 - 2000 - Trimester 3 016 - 2001 - Trimester 1 017 - 2001 - Trimester 2 018 - 2001 - Trimester 3 019 - 2002 - Trimester 1 020 - 2002 - Trimester 2 021 - 2002 - Trimester 3 022 - 2003 - Trimester 1 023 - 2003 - Trimester 2 024 - 2003 - Trimester 3 025 - 2004 - Trimester 1 026 - 2004 - Trimester 2 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- PSRM Number Code Sequence - The Fourth Digit _ _ _ ? _ _ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The fourth digit in the PSRM number is used for cataloging extra discs that are not in the sequential format. The best examples would be "Command and Conquer: Red Alert" and Grand Theft Auto when combined with it's expansion pack "GTA: London". Because these discs are not numerically in-sync with each other (you simply choose one or the other), they have the reference digit in the fourth spot. This is the least used digit in the entire PSRM library. **NOTES** Oddly enough, the other two "Command and Conquer" games follow the sequential order values. Apparently this digit was used only at the whim of the assigner. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- PSRM Number Code Sequence - The Fifth Digit _ _ _ _ ? _ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The fifth digit is the true 'sequencer' digit. Here is where multiple disc games are kept in order. All discs and their partners are catalogued here. All games follow a 'multiple of 10' when being counted, so as to leave the final digit for the important featuristics. For example: If a game is four CDs long, it will have the digits of: Disc 1: 011870 Disc 2: 011880 DIsc 3: 011890 Disc 4: 011900 **NOTES** There have been two exceptions to this rule, where the first disc had it's own seperate number, and then the rest of the CDs fit the pattern. These occurences are still being researched. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- PSRM Number Code Sequence - The Sixth Digit _ _ _ _ _ ? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The 6th and final digit is the Variant Digit. While it's purpose can be changed to suit the need of the user, it does have several specific patterns that can be tracked. So far we have deciphered 5 seperate uses for #6. They are as follows: 1. If it's a 0 (Zero), it marks the first version of the game. 2. If it's a 1, it means that version is a variation from the original. 3. If it's a 4, it means that disc is part of a 3 Pack Collector's Edition. 4. If it's a 6, it means that disc is part of a 2 Pack Collector's Edition. 5. Alundra uses digits 0 - 8 to seperate all 9 disc artwork variations. **NOTES** There is still some research going on in this area, to see if there are any uses for the digits 2,3,5,7,8, and 9 outside of Working Designs' massive variation print runs. This pertains specifically to "Alundra" and "Lunar: The Silver Star Story." Also, it seems Sony broke their own rule: The large box Toshinden has a different PSRM number than it's jewel case "Pack In" Version. That's it for now.
